Software

The Chess Suite contains modified code of chesspresso™ (version unclear), a chess library originally written by Bernhard Seybold and published 2003 under the LGPL, version 2.1.

The 2026 release includes the Unique4J library (see https://github.com/prat-man/unique4j).

The creation of animated GIFs is done by means of some code due to Elliot Kroo, which was published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License, see https://github.com/Deep-Symmetry/wayang/blob/main/src/main/java/org/deepsymmetry/GifSequenceWriter.java.

Chess Fonts

The Chess Suite comes with a number of build-in unicode fonts, named 'CS XYZ Unicode', where XYZ stands for an original truetype font. These original fonts and their authors are: Cases by Matthieu Leschemelle, Chess Alpha and Chess Berlin by Eric Bentzen, Chess Alpha 2 by Peter Strickland, Chess Kingdom, Chess Leipzig, Chess Maya and Chess Mérida all by Armando H. Marroquin. Please note that all fonts are freeware, but this is restricted to personal non-commercial use for the two fonts by Eric Bentzen. For more information please visit http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/fonteng.htm. (Note: Chess Alpha and Chess Berlin are not part of the standard release in order to satisfy the restriction.)

Pictures, icons and sounds

The background image of the start dialog shows a part of a free picture by Amir Esrafili, which was downloaded from http://www.unsplash.com.

All external icons are under free licenses and were downloaded from http://www.fatcow.com/free-icons, http://led24.de/iconset/, http://www.softicons.com, www.small-icons.com and www.iconfinder.com, respectively. The database icon was made by Madebyoliver from flaticon.com, and the export and the experimental icons are due to Freepik also from flaticon.com. Some of the icons were created or modified by myself.

The logo on this webpage is based on a a free picture by Kari Shea downloaded from http://www.unsplash.com.

Excerpts of some free sounds of user freesound_community from pixabay.com are also used since the 2026 release.
